
About The Band
The Blackstone Valley Community
Concert Band (BVCCB)is a non-profit organization made up of musicians, young
and old, from throughout the Valley and neighboring communities.
Over the years, the BVCCB has become a Valley favorite, achieving a solid
reputation through a display of their fine musicianship and crowd pleasing
performances. They provide a popular variety of concert band repertoire to
their audience, from Show Tunes to Sousa!
Our History
The Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band was founded
in April of 2002 under the name of The Uxbridge Community Band. The name was
changed in March of 2004 to better reflect the scope of our membership. The
BVCCB is currently comprised of 50-60 talented instrumentalists who range in
age from 11 to 78! Membership in the BVCCB is open to instrumentalists from
throughout the Blackstone Valley and beyond. Although there are no formal
auditions, high school proficiency is recommended. The band rehearses on
Thursday Evenings, from 7-9 PM, in the auditorium of Whitin Middle School on
Granite Street in Uxbridge, Ma.
Our Conductor
Kathleen Penza graduated Magna Cum Laude from the
University of Lowell College of Music in 1984. She is the founder and
president of the BVCCB. Since 1997, she has been employed as a music
educator in the Uxbridge Public Schools. Currently, she is the Music
Coordinator for the school system as well as Director of the Middle School
Bands. Her conscientious efforts and love of music, have
resulted in significant musical contributions to the local communities. The
BVCCB has become one of the great treasures in this valley, providing
enjoyable musical experiences for all in and around these surrounding towns.
